Our very own Business Development Lead, Honrio Cham, was recently invited to photograph the Mooneyes 20th Annual Yokahama Hot Rod Custom Show in Tokyo, Japan. Pairing one of the most respected hot rod shows in the world with one of the best aftermarket products business with a Japanese division is simply a recipe for success, and this year’s show certainly was. Of course, what else would you expect when you take someone with a passion for bikes, an eye for design and the skill to capture it all in images? Sure enough, Honrio returned laden with beautiful photos, plenty of stories—and a little jetlag.

“It was a really good experience, a great opportunity,” he said. “It was by far the best show I have ever attended, definitely the pound for pound champ in the genre. The quality of the machinery on display and in the parking lots just blew my mind. The amount of vintage bikes and vehicles being ridden as daily rides was unbelievable.”

For Honrio, going to hot rod and motorcycle shows has been a hobby of his for years. It’s all about the aesthetics: how they make machines so powerful look so sleek. Armed with a press pass and blank memory cards, he had four days in the area to soak up the Japanese culture and let the show sink in, but his trip time was packed with activities as Honrio traveled between Hong Kong and Tokyo to work in everything he had planned. The result? He’ll be cataloging photos for the foreseeable future.

Many of his photos, which highlight the mesmerizingly intricate design aspects of the bikes, will be published in various industry magazines featuring the Mooneyes show. Honrio has a very natural approach to photography, a style that works fluidly with the subject. He doesn't edit his shots--the city and the bikes are just as he experienced them.

With such great memories, he’s looking forward to next year’s shows. In the meantime, look out for his photos in the newsstand or see more of his work on Throttle!
